Current #41: The Medical Industrial Complex
Download audioThe set, not a plot
This decade names a machine. The Medical Industrial Complex. Not a cabal in a back room. A set of corporations doing what corporations are for: a return for the owners. Profits over people is the charter. It can be polite. It is still the score.
Current #21 already named the 1910 cut. This page does not reprint Flexner. It names what runs after the cut. You are the customer on the books. The person in the chair may care. The 10-K does not.
Five wings, one charter
Five logos. One charter. A system paid when something is named and billed will prefer a customer it can manage to a person who never comes back. That is business. Illness as a unit of sale is not a moral tale. It is an invoice.
The ship and the kayak
Think of the Complex as an ocean container ship. Highly profitable. Little incentive to turn. Best business model ever invented if the score is margin: create the account, then manage the account. A ship that size does not become a kayak.
You are not the ship. You are one body in one boat. Current #3 already asked if you would take the wheel back. Current #50 will name the change: pick the paddle up. This page only lets you see what you are paddling next to.
What this page will not do
It will not fire the physician. Current #18 still stands. It will not tell you to drop a policy, stop a medicine, or join a faction. It will not put a movement logo on the cover. Sleep, Eat, Move, Connect, Relax are still the Program. The five never invoice like a SKU. That is why they are ours.
Be brave enough to see the books
You are not behind if you trusted a white coat. You are not too late. Your mills are still minting every second of every day. See the charter. Keep the helper. Keep the wheel. Feed the mill what it already knows.
The question
Will you see the Medical Industrial Complex as a charter — not as a plot? The answer is yours. You can take it. You can leave it. No one can take it for you.
If you take it, keep tonight’s five. You are the customer on their books. You are the captain of the kayak. Both can be true in the same hour.
